tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-68133578151008531322012-02-16T00:32:25.376-08:00beachcomberhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09481226241088676992noreply@blogger.comBlogger21100tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6813357815100853132.post-56747611552077661342011-04-08T09:37:00.000-07:002011-04-08T09:38:45.070-07:00You would think, with the hundreds of thousands of pieces of driftwood that you can find on the beach, it wouldn't be too hard to find "letters".&nbsp; If you want an i or l, you're in luck, but try to find the letters f, d, b, s, h, or c.&nbsp; I'm talking one piece of driftwood for each letter, not piecing them together with a bunch of straight sticks.&nbsp; A friend of mine, a famous Forks beachcomber, has written his sons names in large driftwood pieces he gathered over the years and placed them on his wall, so I know it can be done.&nbsp; I've been searching, very sporadically, for about a year now, to find "Life is better at the beach".&nbsp; Time to get back at it.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/6813357815100853132-5674761155207766134?l=sekiubeachhouse.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>beachcomberhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09481226241088676992noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6813357815100853132.post-57224356461163504222011-02-20T23:34:00.000-08:002011-02-20T23:34:27.837-08:00One of my favorite things to do in Sekiu is to monitor the ships with <a href="http://www.marinetraffic.com/">http://www.marinetraffic.com/</a>.&nbsp; The little ship icons are color coded, green for cargo ships, red for tankers, turquoise for tugs, etc.&nbsp;and are even different sizes indicating whether the ships are large or small.&nbsp; Or is it a ship vs a boat?&nbsp; Anyway,&nbsp;a cargo ship was pointing north when it should have been turning east to enter the Straits and was barely moving at 1.1 knots.&nbsp; The little turquoise icon, the Jeffrey Foss,&nbsp; headed straight for the stricken ship.&nbsp; Now the tug is bringing the cargo ship in, chugging along at about 9 knots.&nbsp;&nbsp;Perhaps a disaster averted by that hardworking tub.&nbsp; The Jeffrey Foss is stationed in Neah Bay for just this purpose.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/6813357815100853132-5722435646116350422?l=sekiubeachhouse.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>beachcomberhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09481226241088676992noreply@blogger.com0
